The project is Vöhringer’s updated home décor flagship store located in Xuhui District, Shanghai. To respond to the current market, the designers utilized an advantage of Vöhringer— its customized wooden furniture and flooring departments, and came up with a design solution that features the integration of products and services.
Innovation:
The updated flagship store is a wood-themed home décor space featuring a replicable module design. It is an exploration into low energy consumption in a new era. The project further improves an in-depth modular design catering to the store and ensures a sustainable model that allows for future extensions. The design traces back to order and nature, to build a systemized space that respects the environment and creates order through each module.
Creativity:
The designers adopted an innovative design approach through building an inter-dependent relation between custom modular furniture and flooring to stimulate business enthusiasm and boost product sales. They created a scenario with custom modular furniture and set it against a background of floorings on the wall, the ceiling and the floor, and effectively combined the two categories. The creative integration provides a more diverse product experience for consumers. In addition to showcasing the functionality and aesthetics of custom modular furniture, the design also displays the actual effect and potential of the flooring to inspire consumers’ interest and desire for purchase.
Functionality:
The designers highlighted functionality in the design of the exhibition hall, as they fully utilized the features of recycled flooring and products for sale. The design team used the recycled flooring of the brand and cut them into appropriate shapes and sizes to achieve an environment-friendly design with recycled resources. Products for sale are applied to the exhibition hall’s ceiling, walls and floor, to showcase the actual effect and quality of the products. In addition, the products are combined with the spatial environment in the design of the exhibition hall, highlighting the experience of a home-like environment. In doing so, the designers crafted a display environment that integrated a sense of context, enabling consumers to more effectively experience the true utility and impact of the products. Meanwhile, the design team created a controllable parameter array with recycled flooring, which enhanced construction efficiency and will bring possibilities for more exhibition hall design and construction efforts in the future.
Sustainability:
Before space transformation, various flooring samples were clad on the walls and on the floor. The designers recycled these flooring samples and expansively utilized them as furnishing materials for the ceiling and the walls. They cut the samples into different shapes and sizes and crafted them into regular and rhythmic modules to convey the history of the flooring brand and the idea of sustainability.
