This project is located at at a church in Nanzih District, Kaohsiung. The pastor aimed to create a welcoming space for the congregation and attract younger members. Inspired by art galleries, the designer crafted a serene activity area imbued with sacred tranquility, avoiding ostentatious decorations and focusing on beauty through lines and proportions.
The wall design balances functionality and aesthetics, using acoustic panels in three colors to create proportionate segmentation, forming an artwork-like installation inspired by artist Jean-Philippe Duboscq. The ceiling's hanging panels conceal messy pipelines and reduce echoes, enhancing acoustics and providing a more comfortable prayer environment. The pulpit is the core design element. Despite its small footprint, it significantly influences the overall design.
The congregation follows the pastor for his preaching style and personal characteristics, so the pulpit needed to complement and enhance his image during sermons. Made of solid iron with a baked enamel finish, the offset column design ensures the speaker's full body is not obscured. The modest gray color does not compete for attention with the speaker, and the cross-shaped column symbolizes the cross residing in one's heart, though not overtly displayed. In summary, the design embraces simplicity and elegance, focusing on lines and proportions to create a serene, functional environment. The use of acoustic panels, thoughtful wall segmentation, and a discreet yet impactful pulpit design contribute to a space that enhances the congregation's experience, providing a comfortable and sacred place for gathering and prayer.
