This apartment is located inside a prewar downtown historic building in Thessaloniki, dated from early 1930s. The design approach was to enhance the original character and geometry of the space, enlarge the living areas by demolishing all walls possible, and apply a new material palette that carries throughout the apartment. In a typical plan layout with separate rooms, closed bathrooms and doors, the proposal was to open up and unify space as much as possible. Living and dining areas are located in front of the view, the master bedroom right next to them, separated by glass doors and a thin metal frame, and the master’s wc right in the center of space, looking out to the view through a framed glass curved wall. The kitchen is located at the back of the apartment looking to a sheltered balcony, that is also approached through the master bedroom. Creating a new type of open layout in 1930’s apartment was as important as proposing a new, fun unique material palette. A terrazzo tile with green marble, black and pink stone is a the core around which the palette was built up. The green marble is used in the bathroom’s top and is lined on its floor, whereas the terrazzo tile covers half of the apartment’s floor. The wood is natural oak.Wooven reed is found throughout the custom design and constructed furniture such as bed frame, closet doors in the entrance. The color depicted in the tile and used in light green mint, painted in the kitchen cupboards, and found in the large sofa.
