Sushi restaurant built in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The client is an Edo-mae sushi chef who trained in Japan for 20 years and then traveled overseas. The client's request was: "Japanese sushi restaurants have a bright and tense atmosphere. I want a sushi restaurant that is not too serious, but stylish, like a bar, where people would like to go on their anniversaries". We designed the restaurant to give shape to this desire. The planning was very difficult due to the unique shape of the site and the large wall of the structure blocking the center of the building.
What is a typical Malaysian sushi restaurant? We designed an open and comfortable counter, a private room for VIPs, and a bar where customers can enjoy drinks before and after their meal, all in one restaurant.
We also went to various places in Kuala Lumpur to search for local Malaysian materials. Most of which are used for important parts, such as the wide and long countertops, solid wood such as nyatoh and barau for the tables, display counters, floor and wall surfaces, and broken granite and marble.
From Japan, an antique lacquered door was selected for the main entrance, while the bell cover and lampshade are made of beaten Japanese brass. The store is a combination of Malaysian and Japanese crafts.
