With a new understanding of how we can manage our healthcare independently, what role can design and AI play in further enhancing our healthcare access. Smart Aid Kit is a series of thought-starters that illustrate how design and technology could unlock accessible healthcare for communities across the globe. Allowing individuals to perform basic triage on themselves or others, the Kit can act as a virtual practitioner. Utilising a primary care trained large language model (LLM), which is embedded in its case, users are able to receive basic advice and directive by interacting with four different devices. The team looked at future tools that could be perceived as essential in our day to day lives. Looking first at what general practitioners use and analyse when they first see a patient, Smart Aid Kit features its own versions of a stethoscope, spirometer and ophthalmoscope and features a new tool - a skin analyser. Coupling these needs with the potential we know AI has, Map and Modem have designed Smart Aid Kit as a thought-starter for the future of healthcare, a series of devices that might one day be available to all.
