We were invited to make an installation at an international sculpture festival with no restrictions on venues, materials, and themes. The original concept of architecture is to make a "civil sculpture" that people can enter. When the traditional sculpture is being presented, the viewer is being outside of the picture; What we want to bring here is an installation that is more in-between building and sculpture. Visitors are also welcomed to enter the interior and play, being as part of the picture. In this way, we try to blur the concept of "inside" and "outside" in art. The proportion of the device is controlled at 4X4X6M, and its final form can be seen as the result of a series operation of space digging; the cross-section of the space is circular, and a series of “negative“ cylinders extending through the body travel through the body. They cut out the "negative" space and formed a series of rich interior spaces. The internal spatial form is only treated as a result. The architect's focus point is more on the logical relationship between the cylinder and the hexahedron; Without constraints of generating voids from face to face, as a result, the voids generated can reach the edges and even corners, creating a much more free form that can breathe and a more interesting spatial sequence. The outer boundary of this device is not actually a so-called "facade", but more like six "sections"; these six sections are a representation of the external interpenetration of the space inside. We consciously selected reflective stainless steel as major materials, which can weaken the volume of the sculpture and create a more meaningful interior. From the front, the device looks like a sheet of metal without thickness; but when the visitor approaches, they suddenly find that they can enter the "slice"; there is an infinite space inside the installation, in where/which the visitor can sit, watch, jump, and do anything. There goes a saying that installations can only be viewed from outside, where architecture brings a view from inside; In our version of this installation, where we named it “Lokadhatu” (“The World” in Sanskrit), can be both an architecture without an actual program, and an installation with rich spaces. CREATIVITY This project breaks down the traditional understanding of a sculpture as an object separate from the viewer. Instead of creating an object to be viewed from a distance, the sculpture invites (small) viewers to enter and explore the spaces and vistas created by the design. Instead of walking around it, children can enter the space to experience new views, new vistas, and a reframing and replication of the world beyond.
