The new permanent exhibit allows visitors to fully immerse themselves into the world of rock and pop music. It provides a visual and acoustic picture of the musical phenomena. Thematic sections are scenographically designed to highlight particular content. The topics range from the early pioneers to the trendsetters and the rise from the underground to star status. The stacked showcases inside the main hall form a skyline, in which around every corner new perspectives and connections are being offered.
As you enter, a high-quality headphone is handed out connected to a mobile device. It is equipped with a tracking module, that allows the visitor to be precisely located within the exhibit. Depending on the position, audio content such as music, voice commentary, interviews or a video soundtrack (in 3 languages) is played. Visitors can move freely and let the music guide them, which allows for a completely new way to discover the sounds and content displayed. The longer you stay in one place, the more audio content you will hear and the system remembers when a track has been interrupted and continues at the exact position when you return.
Every 20 minutes, the room transforms into a concert hall, an experience shared by all visitors. The headphone sound is muted, the light is dimmed and the ceiling turns into a "pop sky". A light show announces the live performance projected onto four large screens with a powerful concert-level sound immersing you.
