Pescarus’ story has not been a happy one for a long time. Built in 1938 by one of the most important Romanian interwar architects, Horia Creanga, the building degraded successively during the communist years, but also in the 25 years that followed the regime.
The fact that Pescarus is a historic monument building has generated a long series of limitations on the degree of structural intervention. A large percentage of the original flooring, wall finishes, lighting fixtures that survived the time were sucessfuly preserved.
Thus, the entire restoration project started from a "drop" of glass found among the ruins. It is a former lampshade, a bowl of glass from which the entire restoration was generated. Therefore, more than 2,000 such objects were manually executed, from blown glass, piece by piece. The resulting lighting object was reinterpreted in a contemporary form through manufactured bowls according to the pattern found among the ruins and that, by their disposal, describe the surface of a wave, creating an intelligent connection with the lake and breaking up a large volume of air.
In the context of limitations, we have decided to emphasize the main elements, with the clear intention of not losing the character of the place; all the furniture received the same treatment- man-made, manufactured with limited technologies and with local producers.
