Carlo Ratti Associati completed the transformation of the Agnelli Foundation’s landmark 20th-century building in Turin, Italy into an advanced Office 3.0 – an App-controlled structure, which offers a glimpse of the workplace of the future. The renovated Agnelli Foundation headquarters, organized around a co-working space, pioneers a new technology for personalized heating and cooling – a "thermal bubble" that follows individuals inside the building and allows for better comfort and reduction of energy waste. Internet-of-Things sensors permeate the building and allow the monitoring of different sets of data, including also occupancy levels, lighting, CO2 concentration, and the status of meeting rooms. Based on this information, the building management system (BMS) responds dynamically, adjusting lighting, heating, and room booking in real-time. Furthermore, CRA opened the building to the city and to the garden: A protruding glass body was added, acting as an inviting element to passerby in the neighborhood.
