The store is split over two floors with all the hallmark challenges of a heritage building; insensitively added services, awkward ceiling height shifts and clumsy junctions. To build a more immersive brand world, the disjointed horseshoe plan has been enveloped by a language of arches and ceiling features that tease out an exciting path through the space. At the entrance, find the abundant disco ceiling with rotating disco balls and masses of mirror domes. Continue to the next space by moving through brass lined arch gateways, some of them even flipped upside down; intentional spacial confusion to create moments of wonder. The confetti staircase is a wondrous blushing rabbit hole whisking the visitor down to the basement but don’t go too fast now; stop, rest and have a swing (and a selfie) on your way down. The basement floor opens up to a blossoming shrubby lounge carousel with integrated phone chargers. Shoes are offered atop glowing boxes and amid textile vines. Empowering messages placed onto mirrors cheer ‘Salute Sisterhood’ and ‘Love Yo’self’. And the custom GIF photo booth enables the customer to take home a virtual postcard from the Monki World. A fun-filled collaboration with Joann Tan’s props studio generated bold window and instore installations with animated boobs, bums, hands, kisses and hugs. This is a store that is offering an experience of excitement and loud expression that is unique on the high street.
