A quarry is the evidence of man’s action on nature; a universe in which men unintentionally sculpt pleats and volumes that result in a strange and visually striking geology. A “manufactured landscape”*, organic architecture that arises from the search for beautiful raw materials, and leads us back to the origin of such elements.
The captivating and unique nature of this landscape nourishes the concept. The access through a small opening in the monolithic facade links the visitor with a monumental space, the "arrival to the quarry", the Agora. It’s the starting point of a museographic journey, through multiple exhibition halls with materials of diverse characteristics around the Agora, creating a dynamic and versatile experience.
As far as operational and physical terms, the building is divided into two separate volumes, though intertwined: the universe of the quarry (housing the Agora, The Galleries, the Design Center, the cafeteria, the multipurpose room, the terrace) and the warehouse, where the experience, after visiting the stones, concludes.
This warehouse acts and expresses itself as a container and distribution center, a diaphanous and neutral space, a canvas that grants the relevance of the stones to the scene, framed in the background by a forest which links us once more with the origin of matter.
