Located at the top of an old dune this estate built in 1899 was in need of an update. The layout of the various rooms on the ground floor were not efficient to the needs of the client. By moving the ensuite, a more intimate living room was created where evenings around the open fire and the piano have become almost a daily routine for our client.

With the move of the ensuite, a central space opened up for a large dining table to have dinner parties. In this space, large scale openings were created to let the light shine all the way into the central corridor. This also improves the flow of the house.

One of the important points in the briefing by our client was the wish for an area to entertain, which previously was in the dark kitchen area. We extended the existing kitchen into the light-filled room next to it, by using a bar extension. Now the entertaining happens around the bar and the built-in seating area, which is also a favorite hangout spot for the kids.

At the basement level a wellness and gym is created. An old and dilapidated pool was demolished and a light-filled new extension was made with views
from the dune into the old forest. With the discovery of vaulted brick ceilings, the color palette was altered and the combination of warm walnut and diffuse lighting makes it a welcoming space.
