For the sixth edition of the Collectible Design Fair, Paf atelier is designing and producing a scenography and signage for the event, which is taking place at Tour & Taxis (Brussels). As a result of a carte blanche, this intervention is based on the studio's research into inflatables, their aesthetics and their longevity. The brief was to conceptualize the main installation of the fair as well as the whole signage of the exhibition. The main installation, positioned at the entrance to the fair, is both a spatial landmark and a roof under which to meet. It is the starting and ending point of the fair. We design and produce a single-material scenography in order to create an essential decor. Composed of 24 inflatable structures and more than 350 linear metres of rope, the suspended installation highlights the quality of each of its components. The inflatable is a product that we have been working on for a few months now with craftsmen who support us in making these objects. The properties of this object are incredible and correspond to our aspirations: bring to light technicalities and new positions in the design around materials. The rope has been thought up for its technical and aesthetic characteristics to support the inflatable structures. This suspended ceiling is the crystallisation of the work of Paf Atelier, for which the choice of materials, construction techniques and the application of local know-how are part of a responsible, ethical and sustainable approach.
