1. Story
‘WATSON, THE MAESTRO’, Albert Watson’s photo exhibition, is the first major exhibition in Asia by the Master of Fashion Portrait Photography.
In the exhibition space, ‘the world seen by the other eye of the artist who has been blind in one eye since birth’ is interpreted as the ambiguity of boundary, ‘the media of photo’, and his language as the expansion of view, and the ‘passion and sincerity behind his work’ as intuition's eye, resulting in ‘inter coursing’ of the exhibition space.
Inter coursing, a technique that penetrates and relates the space, penetrates and connects the photographic work and the exhibition space, absorbs the gaze of viewers so that they can enter the photographic work through the intuitive gaze of the viewer observing the work within the ambiguity of the exhibition space boundary, and allows the viewer himself to operate as an element constituting the exhibition space. By providing such a space, it provides an experience in which the viewer is embodied in the artist's point of view and the story of the photo.
2. Innovation
You can see the stories hidden in the work about the eight most iconic works of Albert Watson, including Steve Jobs and Kate Moss, and their related episodes, production backgrounds and filming process with photo and interview video in ‘Behind the Scenes’, which penetrates the walls of the space that separates the artworks and sees the narrative and production process of each photo with an intuitive gaze through the depth of the space with 'the gaze of depth', and provides an immersive experience of looking deeply into his philosophy of understanding.
3. Creativity
‘Alfred Hitchcock’ was the photograph that marked a turning point in Albert Watson’s career and life. Harper's Bazaar modeled after the director with its 1973 Christmas cover, ‘HITCHCOCK’.
The space, with the motif of the keyword ‘frame’ surrounding the work, viewed the work with a ‘attentional gaze’ through the overlapping of frame layers, and induced a relationship with the artist through the experience of approaching the work itself.
4. Functionality
Viewers will see Watson's photos from various perspectives. The photos refuse to fit into the set framework of a particular photographic genre. Between intuitive and contemplative viewing, the exhibition route is viewed in the function of "inter coursing," penetrating the space between sections and sections, and is considered as a ‘window’, allowing visitors to face themselves and discover the appearance projected into the work.
5. Sustainability
For sustainability, all of us are focusing on the energy efficiency space or products that can be recycled. However, we would like to talk about sustainability from a different perspective. Reducing even one process with the minimal amount of materials, minimal time, and minimal energy use is an act for the environment, and furthermore, it is a motivation for sustainable design.
