In February of 2024, the möbel showroom was inaugurated in the Outremont neighbourhood. Housing a certified MillerKnoll distributor in Québec, founding partners Jean-Philippe Dufour and Dany Gravel strategically invested in this historic 15,000-square foot location spanning 2 floors and including a generous rooftop terrace. The space aims to showcase and highlight the various brands supplied by the MillerKnoll manufacturer.
Benefitting from a 360-degree view of Montréal with an exceptional panorama of the Olympic Stadium and Mount Royal, this showroom is situated on the 9th and 10th floors, at 400 Atlantic Avenue, in a restored heritage building contributing to a neighbourhood in full transformation. This location was chosen by möbel in part because it is central on the island of Montréal and its surroundings, and in part because its heritage harmonizes perfectly with the MillerKnoll brand, reflective of a historically renowned group of manufacturers bringing together the most innovative commercial and residential furniture designs.
In close collaboration with möbel, award-winning firm Provencher_Roy designed this showroom to extend beyond simply presenting furniture, in offering an immersive experience for visitors. Every detail was meticulously considered, from the sculptural staircase connecting the two floors in the centre, to the vast exhibition space, furniture choices, and integration of rugs. All the elements, including a large terrace showcasing the range of outdoor furniture options, come together to stimulate the imaginations of clients, prompting them to visualize their own inspiring environments. In addition, executive conference room rentals offer multipurpose spaces for the design community and industry partners.
The main design challenges pertained to respecting and valuing the architectural characteristics of the heritage building. Provencher_Roy was continuously present throughout construction, working and collaborating with the various project participants in order to properly integrate the existing ceiling heights, ducts, and drains, with the objective of preserving the building’s exposed structure, while removing less aesthetic elements. The exposed industrial architecture is sober and timeless, placing MillerKnoll products in a position of prominence. The resulting space is truly inspiring for Québécois designers.
As the first showroom of its magnitude in Québec, it transcends traditional roles in reflecting a symbiosis between history and innovation in the design field. The brainchild of möbel’s vision and Provencher_Roy’s architectural expertise, the space has become an immersive experience for visitors. This showroom will undoubtedly inspire the unprecedented audacious commercial, institutional, and residential designs that will surely garner awards in the years to come, in addition to positioning Québec as a design reference.
