Amidst the skyrises of Hong Kong, the designer sought to create a haven for the client, drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings of their home in Northern California.

The patterned marble floor resembles the uneven rocks of a hiking trail. The wooden beams transport us to the tall redwood forests. The feature wall reminds us of the distant views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. And the log accent stirs up memories of cozy evenings by the fireplace.

To enlarge the public space for entertaining guests, the designer takes out the partition wall to a bedroom to create a raised family room. The space is partitioned by a glass railing, accented with birds soaring towards the wide (2.5 feet) structure window ledge.

The pièce de résistance is Arihiro Miyake’s light feature, “In the Wind”. A tribute to the natural world that inspired the designer.
