360 Design Budapest was a series of programs, introduced by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency in the frame of Budapest Design Week. Besides the 20 Hungarian designers, 4 international talents were also displayed, showcasing the richness of the European design industry. The general public had the opportunity to get to know the products from the designers’ point of view and they were able to get the essence of the creations by clicking on the icon next to the photos, videos and articles. The physical exhibition was hosted in a custom-made exhibition space where the selected designer objects were presented in three main areas: small objects from our everyday life - ceramics, statues, lamps -, insights into different interiors - a living room, an office area and a dining room , and last but not least the exchanged perspectives - showing lamps at eye level and placing chairs into the heights. In addition, in a dedicated part of the exhibition, visitors could also watch interesting roundtable discussions with local and regional designers about current topics that were pre-recorded prior to the event. To link the physical event to the digital platform, additionally, the visitors of the physical exhibition could experience the digital space using the VR glasses that were placed on the spot. But if that isn’t enough, the curator of the exhibition led visitors through an online guided tour and shared some behind the scenes as well. The offline event welcomed visitors from 8 – 10 October 2020. This digital platform dedicated to the event enables everyone to view the exhibition online regardless of geographical distance, so if someone missed to visit the physical exhibition, they will always have the opportunity to walk in the digital space to admire the creations. The event’s digital platform www.360dbp.com greets the visitors with a whole-screen street view, and offers an insight to the exhibition through two gates: · on the left side, visitors can walk through the physically built exhibition site - thanks to the spherical panorama recordings- and admire the works of Hungarian designers exclusively · on the right side, like a reflection of the left side, can be found the regional exhibition , that only exists in the digital space. It showcases not only the works of Hungarian designers but also the 3D models of regional designers products. Part of the concept was to point out how physical and digital spaces can be mashed together. Despite the virus situation we still managed to reach a high number of visitors with the exhibition, and we consider it to be a huge success: we registered more than 600 participants which made the physical event full house – although one at a time only 50 people were allowed inside the exhibition space. Due to the extensive media coverage about the event, Hungarian designers gained a great deal of recognition: more than 30 Hungarian influencers appeared at the exhibition, 60 press releases were issued, and numerous international platforms published articles about 360 Design Budapest.
