Outofstock is the first South Korean reselling platform brand specializing limited-edition products. The continuous growth from the online platform has led to a start of the first brick-and-mortar store in Yeongdeungpo Lotte Department store. The main task of the design is to independently express Outofstock’s brand identity of “ Trade all the value of the world originality ” and to harmoniously combine the showroom’s MZ generation targeted ‘hip industrial street style’ theme at the same time.nThe differences in texture and concept between the natural and chiseled rock reflect the core motif of design, “ Finding one’s own gemstone hidden in the world” Outofstock showroom seeks to exceed the limit of simple and dull composition of square plane and to explore open space with curved wall, thus highlighting the space itself from the entrance and the products while increasing the natural flow of the circulation. The showroom is divided into three main parts: product showcase area, product inspection and retail space, and art work display delivering the purpose of the design. First, showcase area starts from curved wall on the left showing rough but dense texture of the nature which emphasizes the details of the presence and value of the overlaid products. In particular, the wall is finished with custom-processed silica, showing Outofstock’s unique texture and language. Second, storage, inspection, and retail space on the right side presents brand identity as a resell platform in both tangible and intangible ways by the display monitor on the metal wall, showing real-time product price information. Third, the artwork, a collaboration with an artist, conveys both store concept and design message, showing the whole perception of the showroom in contemporary language. Metal mesh installations placed on the irregular piles of white sand -acting as a stage- interprets the crude rocks. Merchandises are placed throughout the rock, adding humor and metaphor at the same time.
