Hospitality reinvented through inclusive and sensory design
In a world where hospitality is evolving to meet the diverse needs of travellers, DI OGNUNO stands as a revolutionary project that reimagines accessibility, comfort, and sensory design. Presented at Hospitality 2025 in Riva del Garda, this immersive installation—created by Lombardini22 in collaboration with Village for All (V4A)—challenges industry conventions and demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform hospitality into a truly inclusive experience.

Instead of merely presenting accessibility as a technical requirement, DI OGNUNO makes it tangible. The installation takes visitors on a journey through two contrasting breakfast spaces: one filled with common accessibility barriers—cramped layouts, high counters, poor lighting, and confusing signage—and the other, a fully inclusive, optimized environment designed for universal comfort. This experiential approach does more than highlight design flaws; it highlights practical, scalable solutions that improve the hospitality experience for everyone.

In the redesigned breakfast area, every detail is intentional. Round tables with a single central support allow wheelchair users to sit comfortably while also facilitating conversation and lip reading. The buffet layout is intuitive and accessible, with clear food labelling, adjustable serving heights, and user-friendly utensils. Instead of harsh, unfiltered lighting, warm, diffused illumination creates a relaxing atmosphere, while sound-absorbing panels minimize background noise, enhancing the dining experience for all guests.

Beyond physical accessibility, the project also explores the role of sensory design. Scent, often overlooked in hospitality spaces, is carefully curated to enhance, rather than overwhelm, the guest experience. In the comfort zone, fragrances like vanilla and coffee create a welcoming ambiance, contrasting with the chaotic olfactory overload of the discomfort area. By integrating these elements, DI OGNUNO demonstrates that inclusivity is not just about removing barriers—it is about creating spaces that actively promote well-being.
But the impact of DI OGNUNO extends far beyond the installation itself. It serves as a blueprint for the hospitality industry, proving that accessible design is not only a social responsibility but also a business advantage. Hotels and restaurants that prioritize inclusivity expand their customer base, improve guest satisfaction, and strengthen their brand reputation. This shift from compliance-driven accessibility to experience-driven hospitality is what makes DI OGNUNO truly groundbreaking.

More than just a showcase of ideas, DI OGNUNO is a call to action. It challenges architects, designers, and hospitality professionals to rethink the way spaces are created. In doing so, it paves the way for a future where accessibility is not an afterthought, but a fundamental principle of brilliant design.
