Since then, Kobe has developed as a hub of international trade, interacting with ports on the Chinese mainland and the Korean peninsula. In Japan, Kobe also functioned as a strategic point for land and water transportation, and was a place where a variety of people, including merchants and travelers, came and went. Later, when exchange with Europe and the United States began in the Meiji era (1868-1912), Kobe was one of the first ports to open its doors to foreigners, bringing with it Western lifestyles in every aspect, including food, clothing, housing, entertainment, and culture, and even today Kobe retains a unique climate that is exotic in Japan. 

The project was part of the redevelopment of the area in front of Sannomiya Station, Kobe's busiest shopping area, and involved the revitalization of the space under the elevated railway station, which is more than 100 years old, into a beer hall. Sannomiya is home to Sannomiya Station and the bus terminal for each of the electric railway lines, making it a transportation node for the city and beyond, as well as a hub for sightseeing in Kobe, with its large commercial facilities and hotels. 

In renovating the building by utilizing its frame, we considered the historical nature of the building as art, such as the frame that retains its past history as an asset, the arches under the elevated railroad tracks, and the marks of construction work that have been repeatedly renovated, to effectively accentuate the space. The space with its bare frame is decorated mainly with beer-colored "beer yellow" and marine colors, the color of the harbor. 

A terrace seating area is provided, and the sight of passersby sipping beer on the brightly lit, pop-up marine terrace attracts people to the street. The terrace is 600 below ground level, and the main floor is on a mezzanine floor above the terrace. The ceiling height of the half-ground level was only 2,000. Therefore, the floor was raised to the same height as the street level, and a large table with a sail was placed. A staircase next to the large table was lowered several steps to create a striking yellow staircase that invites visitors to go up to the main floor. 

In addition, in the half-underground section, the main kitchen is an open kitchen so that the realism of the kitchen can be felt inside the restaurant, and the reflection of the mirror and the randomness of the lighting create an expansive space that does not feel low ceilings. Once upstairs, colorful furniture lines the floor, and the spaciousness of the space creates a sense of coziness and colorfulness. The frame of the building was stripped bare to convey as much of its former history as possible, and by placing colorful furniture in it, a new worldview was created in the long-standing history of the architecture.
