Located on the second floor and extending into a luminous mezzanine, The Binome Apartment is the street-facing unit of a refined residential project by Appareil Architecture. Part of a thoughtful urban densification initiative in Montreal’s Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood, the apartment offers a unique blend of privacy, light, and architectural expression.

Positioned at the front of the building, it benefits from expansive views and generous natural light, framed by a red brick façade and industrial-inspired fenestration. Along the street-facing elevation, glass block windows subtly filter light into the interior while preserving residents’ privacy—an elegant balance between openness and discretion.

The interior unfolds across two levels and features two bathrooms, each finished with carefully selected ceramics that elevate the everyday experience. The kitchen is anchored by a custom island in oak, while the mezzanine provides a flexible retreat ideal for work, rest, or reflection.

A key feature of the apartment is its white interior staircase, whose steps are clad in colorful terrazzo—an expressive, tactile detail that animates the heart of the space and adds a playful rhythm to its verticality.

As part of the broader Binome project, residents also benefit from shared spaces such as a central burgundy staircase and a landscaped courtyard that fosters community connection. Green roofs, rainwater management systems, and biodiversity-focused landscaping reflect the project’s sustainable ethos.

More than just a residence, The Binome Apartment is an exploration of materiality, light, and thoughtful living within the fabric of the city.
