AL13.378 Handles: When Creative Openness Meets Sustainable Craftsmanship
In a quest for creative exploration and a commitment to craftsmanship, the AL13.378 handles transcend the boundaries of architecture, interior design, and furniture. This project encourages a holistic approach, prompting comprehensive reflection in each of our endeavors.
Driven by a strong environmental conviction, this initiative aims to reclaim materials that were once destined for landfill from our construction sites and give them a new life within our projects. Aluminum, with its reliability, durability, and ubiquitous presence on our construction sites, seamlessly integrates into our creative process, resulting in the creation of an everyday object: a door handle.
The aluminum reclamation takes place at our Parisian construction sites, where the material is carefully sorted and melted to form ingots. These ingots then find their way to the workshop of an artisanal caster. By using sand molds during the creation of the initial prototypes, we benefit from an approach that is both cost-effective and offers limitless design freedom. Such an endeavor fosters curiosity and an aspiration to create something truly unique.
As a result, the studio envisions an archetypal piece that stands out with its porous and irregular texture, establishing a dialogue between artisanal fabrication and the intrinsic simplicity of the material. Only a single notch is machined into the handle, giving it a contemporary touch while enhancing its ergonomics.
The AL13.378 handles exemplify the harmonious alliance of innovative design thinking, sustainable principles, and a resolutely ecological approach. In this exploration of form and function, formerly overlooked aluminum is transformed into a valuable resource, offering a second life to our materials and contributing to the preservation of our environment. With these handles, the ordinary metamorphoses into the extraordinary while upholding the values of durability and ecology that guide our creative process.
