Brinkworth has partnered with Highsnobiety to design GATEZERO, a revolutionary multi-brand pop-up concept that is set to change the face of airport shopping. Located in the heart of Zurich Airport, this clean, restrained space offers a carefully considered backdrop to house a curated selection of brands and products. GATEZERO opens with an exciting line-up of 15 luxury fashion and lifestyle brands. An oasis of calm in the middle of a bustling airport, GATEZERO combines practical concerns of luxury retailing and the exposed setting of the airport with a clean and simple aesthetic, which draws focus towards – and celebrates – the products housed within it. With open external and enclosed internal areas, the aim was to create a separate but seamless inviting environment. Externally wrapped in a brushed steel cladding, the design utilises Aluminium extrusions to develop a series of zoned rooms that offers a different look, feel, and experience. These rooms have their own distinct and defined character, with a restrained architectural palette that informs the exterior and bold use of colour and texture used throughout. One room has a pillowed, distorted mirror aesthetic, with hanging rails that penetrate the sheeting. Other finishes include EchoBoard, a high-tech recyclable board employed here as one of the interchangeable wall panels. Elsewhere, a printed laminate punctuated with Highsnobiety graphics is featured, alongside mirrored panels. Innovative and practical, the space is informed by its surroundings and responds to them, referencing airport infrastructure – such as the hardworking, flexible mid-floor furniture that riffs off the stainless-steel tables often found in Customs. Meanwhile, large monoblock tables extrude up from the floor, and a simple shelving system contributes clean lines to the space and gives it a sense of harmony. Rubber flooring is used throughout the concept, along with printed laminates, acoustic finishes and layered graphics. Core to GATEZERO is the central experiential area, which features a large-scale LED screen on the back wall, designed to host a changing roster of collaborator and partner experiences throughout the pop-up. Meanwhile, wall accessories and mid-floor furniture allow the space to alter and adapt according to specific brand requirements. At the same time, fixed elements work to anchor the evolving customer journey. Functionality is central to the concept, which can be constructed, deconstructed and altered quickly and easily. This is particularly key to the main experiential area, which will host a range of immersive brand activations with unique experiential build-outs. This area will first be taken over by On Running, with other brands yet to be announced. The space will also feature limited edition product drops and collaborations, making the concept a forever-changing destination to discover, experience, and interact with brands.
