Designed in dialogue with Fjord, the new space has been designed to enable creativity to thrive, bringing together an activity-based-working approach inspired by company specific workflows to create a space where the existing company culture can feel at home and where new cultures can be formed.
Laid out over 1000m2 and split into two levels connected by a slow and winding stair, the studio now has corners and activity thresholds.
The division of space was driven by the necessity to provide diverse habitats for diverse working requirements. Small acoustic spaces close to desks to allow a planned or unplanned call. A menu of meeting spaces from the small to the large, from the open plan to the acoustic room, from the transparent to the opaque. Workspaces where desk clusters are islands surrounded by walls free to write on, ideate on, process on. Social spaces where staff plants grow and kombucha is fermenting. Layout spaces with the longest cutting mats. Adaptable spaces that can allow events, workshops or informal working, acheivable with furniture on wheels and walls on sliding tracks.
The internal placemaking sets up canvas for a company to play out all the diverse needs of a contemporary studio.
Two visual themes run through the design: honest, utilitarian design with lots of white ( as a blank canvas) and natural materials like spruce ply linoleum, cork. And living plants and daylight - using light ceilings in the darkest zones to simulate top day light.
