Prismatica by RAW

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

Amidst a winter snowscape, a public plaza in downtown Montreal is glimmering like a jewel thanks to a public art installation comprised of kaleidoscopic prisms.

Conceived by Toronto-based design firm RAW for the 5th annual Luminothérapie competition - a local initiative which seeks to activate the urban district Quartier des spectacles with a unique lighting solution each year. RAW's interactive scheme filled the district's open area with 50 transparent prisms standing 2 meters tall. The geometric posts are formed with laminated glass panels coated with dichronic film which reflect all of the colours in the visible spectrum. Standing on bases with integrated projectors, the illuminated elements attract passersby to spin the prisms and activate a whimsical interplay of light and reflections with the sound of bells.

Prismatica will be on display in Montreal's Quartier des spectacles until 1 February 2015.
