Vibia's Array lighting collection shone brightly in the eyes of the grand jury, earning it the winning title in the FRAME Awards Lighting of the Year category.

The Array collection by Umut Yamac for Vibia investigates the use of fine threads to create lightweight and dynamic lighting sculptures. Suspended between aluminium rings, the threads are arranged in cylindrical and conical forms that explore volume, translucency and spatial perception. The design features a concealed light source in the lower ring, producing both downward illumination and an upward glow. This interaction with the layered threads creates a gradient effect and a moiré pattern, giving an illusion of movement as the viewer’s perspective shifts.

‘Elegant’ was the most common adjective used by the jury members. ‘It has a very light appearance and a very nice volumetric effect that also produces a warm and pleasant ambient light,’ added Javier Jiménez Iniesta, architect and director at Studio Animal. Andrea Sensoli, founder and principal architect of ASZ Architetti, considered Array to be ‘a fine example of tech-native design – that which exploits the true peculiarity of a technology to create objects that only possible because of it. The same applies to the double function of the cables. The result is very versatile.’
