The aesthetic thoughts populated in Song Dynasty are full of color, with distinctive rheology characteristics, literal and cultural temperament, which make it the standard paradigm of Chinese aesthetics. The aesthetic from Song Dynasty is blended with Western Minimalism in MOON & YARD to show a classic mansion of South China. "Harmony" is an important category of traditional Chinese philosophy. The design is based on the principle of "Harmony" to represent the value of harmony. The “harmony ” between people and objects is subtly transformed into space, and reflects oriental charm of “simplifying complexity” on modern western ornaments. Paintings and theme spaces thereby established the connection between ancient and contemporary times as well as oriental and western world. The overall space is bright and open, the layout is featured by oriental aesthetic of central symmetry and neat arrangement. But the relationship is open, and the concept of "flowing space, free plane" of Mies is skillfully integrated into the space to handle the mutual relations. The design uses "de-symbolization", emphasizing on sense instead of shape. Contours of oriental sense is simply blended into the space through western design method to create the “sense”. The classical form and decoration of traditional Chinese courtyard is weakened in this design, instead, it describes the beauty and grace of South China by way of “imaging”. Meanwhile, a large of space is left white to create a minimalist natural rhyme of "returning to the original." Designer pays special attention on treatment of light in the underground family hall. A skylight is designed at the water bar to enhance the flow of light in the space. The sunlight pours on the clear jade surface like a soft filter over the space. The Su Tianqing of RuYao(a rare variety of chinaware of the Song Dynasty) created a shimmering light with oriental charm. A large area of indigo-blue jade was elaborately selected from the view of minimalist aesthetics of Ru Yao in Song Dynasty. The translucent treatment of the ceiling light board brings more contrast and tension between nature and indoor light and shadow, and the multiple light senses created more levels on space furnishings and artistic decoration. With the interaction of light and dark and the intensity of the shadows, the eastern mood reflected in the shadow layers seems ever-lasting. Materials in the space are worth tasting. It bears the characteristics of synergy and continuity, as well as the united "weak contrast" tone. Bedrooms are visually sublimated with different themes, the elder room-Birds which means longevity, the master bedroom-Fish which means wealthy, children's room-moon rabbit and dream horse which symbolize childlike innocence. In the time of modern civilization and the mix of West and East, the house with pavilions along rivulet and over hillside is what we think "the most comfortable modern human settlement." An ingenious design often wins with details.
