The project is on the first floor of the outstanding historical "Deyi Building." To better respect the original building and retain its characteristics, the design blends retro, Shanghainese, and Japanese styles. It introduces classic elements of the Japanese Suntory Brewery, symbolizing the friendly exchange between Chinese and Japanese cultures.
The project's door header is made of weather-resistant dark brown steel panels and combined with oversized floor-to-ceiling windows; its color palette and style blend with the historic building, evoking memories of vintage decorative aesthetics and bringing more sunlight into the interior. The distiller has been strategically placed at the entrance, creating a buffer zone while setting the tone of the space.
The circular bar on the first floor separates the space for cigarette cabinets, wine racks, and displays; the sliding window and cigarette cabinet are paired to create the scene and atmosphere of an old Shanghai tobacco store. The wine racks and bar are designed inspired by the barrels of Japanese distilleries, with barrel-style wall-mounted display cabinets and landscape vignettes to restore the flavor of Japanese distilleries for Chinese clients. The interior is dominated by warm colors, and the materials used in the project are taken from nature, echoing the liquor product’s raw materials are originating from the mountains and water. The staircase seems suspended in mid-air, casting dappled light and shadow, transitioning the space of the first and second floors.
The second floor is mainly designed for the product display area and rest area. The design creates a spatial atmosphere by combining array and structure with light and shadow; the wall arranges the wine cabinet; the bottom of the cabinet is suspended, and its lower portion is paved with crushed stone; the second level is partly hollow, and seats beside the fence can view the distiller from different angles; a variety of wines are divided by dark glass, which exhibits a varied texture under the superposition of light and shade. The display cabinets are extended from the public area to the VIP room, combined with plant silhouette screens, defining an exclusive space for VIP customers.
