Project: HQ Takeaway.com, Amsterdam (5.500m2, 6 floors) Assignment: Visual identity meets functionality Design: Mirato Project management: Vega Projects Takeaway.com is among the fastest-growing companies in Europe. Designing the interior for their headquarters meant thinking two steps ahead. We managed to come up with a durable solution to support Facility Management who were caught up in the speed of their rapidly changing company. Concept The essence of Takeaway: ‘the connecting link between restaurants and consumers at home’. This has been the starting point for the development of the office concept, which we translated into the layout of the office. Translation The outer layer of the floorplan, situated by the glass windows with spectacular views over ‘het IJ’, is divided into districts for designated departments: the home. This serene and low stimulus environment is designed for concentration. A space to focus on work and feel at ease, with green moss circles providing clean air and acoustics. The core of the floorplan, elevated by 12 centimeters, locates all the active office functionalities. Meeting rooms, phone booths, scrum areas, and inviting coffee nooks turns this a vibrant space to meet and connect, this refers to the restaurants. The bright Takeaway-orange path is literally the connecting link between the two spaces. This path between the restaurants and districts, which the bike couriers drive every day, is emphasized by an orange track light rail. Besides creating a design that translated the visual identity into a functional space, the high paced growth combined with short lease contracts made this a complex housing issue. We designed a modular box-in-box solution, which due to its standard dimensions fits in every office building. This enables Takeaway to move, change, or add modules to align with their changing needs. The interior can grow organically along with Takeaway. Mirato also designed a lunch floor where everybody can meet each other. The office concept ticks all the boxes and will be implemented in their new 18.000m2 Berlin office, which will be put into use mid-2021.
