Located in the Wanbo Business District of Guangzhou South CBD and also as the only residential land in this district, Gemdale The One Residential has its irreproducible rareness and is worthy of our serious consideration. As the "directional concept work" through which Gemdale aims to practice its ideal of living, the project condenses Gemdale's strategic development thinking and full judgment and forward-looking understanding of the future lifestyle throughout project planning, gardening, architecture, apartment type and design. The building is a 6-storeyy villa with three ones aboveground and underground respectively. The Gemdale team pioneers the use of the original plot level difference and raised the garden as a whole, which, on one hand, creates a necessary sense of privacy, and, on the other hand, forms the "double first store" setting unique to the project and also forms the precious double-storey two-way landscape resource on the first store and the negative first store of the building. LSDCASA undertakes the overall interior design of this project. We try to return to the most essential thinking of design, and respond to the original will of living with ordinary life and quiet and simple impression. In the design of this project, we are looking for a style that is not clearly defined, or, in other words, here our style is not a model, but a methodology. The life we face every day will teach us what a more appropriate design is. Therefore, we do not hesitate to make subversive changes to the interior space of the building to create smoother generatrices and more reasonable allocation of space resources. Besides, we pursue the genuineness of materials and the release of functions, and, on top of this, create some little surprises in everyday life through changes. In respect of space planning, breaking through the usual experience and rules, we create a great space experience, and load as many lifestyles as possible under the new values with space as a container. From the ground down to the negative third floor, the family's living and social spaces of different depths are accommodated, so the design keeps selective "opening" as its essence. From the ground up to the third floor, the family's rest and living are placed, so the design keeps as “inward collecting” as possible, constructing an interface for communication while creating privacy and comfort. Based on space planning, we comb the generatrices in the space. The 6-storey vertical step ladder in the original building planning is not conducive to the generatrices and increases discomfort of use. We use a three-storey vertical step ladder and a three-storey spiral staircase to form the conversion of generatrices between the living area and the social activity area. The semi-outdoor space on the first floor and the negative first floor is joined by a structural art step ladder to complete the alternation from "inward collecting" to "outward release". A space, not a place to display construction, aims to suppress temptation and reduce distraction. In addition to removing the process and unnecessary details, we also strive to be true and restrained in terms of color and material selection. We try to use natural materials and strive to present genuine materials without deduction. In terms of overall color, black and white occupy most of the space, and a small amount of different color is also blended with grayscale. The large-area black-and-white walls collide almost straightly, but under this conflicting force, they deflect and then go on, just like a way out of dense willow trees and bright flowers or a winding path leading to a secluded spot. In the space, intertwined walls and conflicting black and white, demonstrating each other, are thus more purely presented. The first floor, as the living space, underlines the character of the house at first sight when you walking from the courtyard. The space there created by natural materials such as wood and stone predominantly presents the real property of the materials with their original plain and matte finishing, rather than imagination associated with their finishing. The timeless theme of black and white, reflected in a variety of materials and textures that feel warm, cool, mellow or flimsy etc., interacts with and composes the colors of the space. Cuprous decoratings flick through the space unsparklingly, while the light-brown ground, warm as Mother Earth, embraces everything. Through a narrow and short aisle, the space is opened up suddenly in the dinning and cooking space, which makes the life more interactive and interesting. The upper space of dinning room and open kitchen link their space together, with which the family and the friends, over the dining table, enjoy more communications during cooking or dining. Looking upwards, two windows are from two respective children’s rooms, from which you may see, when the curtains are opened, the kids do their housework at the same time, sometimes they may look up and smile or make faces at each other through the glass, accompanying but not interfering each other. In such "open" space, some blocks are needed to delimit areas psychologically. The dining area is therefore composed of a rectangular pendant light, catering to the two vertical sides, and a carpet and a table in matching shape and size. The living room continues the main sense and tone and of the overall space, and creates a quiet and private space with simple material and layered layout. Some green plants respond to the green outside through mirrors, forming a visual continuity. Modern furniture with seemingly irregular layout creates a sense of freedom and life. In ground floor is a semi-open family play area centred in the courtyard. Following the overall color tone of black and white, it adopts more black in vertical sides while more white in horizontal, with more gray as a smooth, gradual transition. Its plain and matte finishing allows this light-favored space to keep bright in a tender manner. As getting elder, we get closer to the nature. The elderly room is thus placed at the side of the courtyard in ground floor, surrounded with grass, soil and sunlight, by which both their body and soul are nourished. In the morning, the elders do exercise here, while in the afternoon or evening, they watch the kids playing and chasing happily here. In summer nights, it becomes a BBQ party place for friends. At the party, the guests who want to continue may be taken to the lounge area in ground floor where they can keep on drinking and talking. Through a deliberately narrow corridor comes the space for men. With big black and white blocks prevailing and straight and simple lines extending, its narrow feature separates the space quickly from the bustle and hustle outside psychologically, which makes it suitable for both business negotiations and communications with friends. The elderly room features calm and comfortable by gentle and clean colors, and is created with varying layers and rhythms under the same color tone through the materials and textures. At the door stands a sculpture by British artist Tony Cragg, which brightens up the whole space. Cross the aisle comes a hobby room for elders and kids. Decorated in a consistent color with the elderly room, the hobby room feels calm and energetic yet which comes from the casualness in layout. Several seats cushions are placed near the glass window, from which you have the view of the green courtyard and the people drinking and laughing in the party as well. The bottom of this house, where the spiral staircase stops, faces a swimming pool. The stairs with curved glass and its reflection in the rippling water becomes a picture of sculpture with sparkling colors. The whole three floors of this house satisfy all living needs, to a luxurious extent, of the owner. A wooden grille separates the master bedroom from the study. And a large floor-to-ceiling glass window with no redundant functions or decorations allows in the maximum of the lights and the scenery, which have been considered into the design and decide the color selection of the materials. Conforming to the main tone of the whole space, the bedroom creates a private atmosphere by changing color themes, such as matte bedding, soft carpet, included in the overall open space.
