New changes to the Frame Awards platform were introduced at the start of the 2021 call-for-submissions campaign. We want to demystify these changes by unpacking everything from revolving juries and online voting, to the format of the monthly and annual awards. Read on to learn about the new system, and how it gives you an even greater chance of taking home a Frame Award.
Revolving juries
In September 2020 we installed the first monthly jury, hand-picked from our community of industry-wide stakeholders. Every month since then, new jury members have been appointed. Now our juries are not only made up of world-renowned interior designers, but also brand strategists, creative directors, interior photographers, manufacturers, architects, researchers, educators and more. Our new approach means that anyone working within the spectrum of the spatial design industry can apply for a seat at the table. This new initiative aims to encourage peer-to-peer review, transparency and inclusivity while increasing community engagement.
Online voting
The monthly juries vote on new projects published on our website daily. Their scores and comments are immediately visible, creating greater transparency and accountability. It also provides all submitters and the Frame audience alike unique opportunities to learn from jury feedback, spot emerging trends and see what the judges are scoring highly on.
Monthly awards
In a bid to maximize the value we offer our community, we introduced monthly awards. The Interior of the Month accolade is awarded to the highest-scoring project, regardless of category, with the four runners-up each receiving an honourable mention. These projects automatically get shortlisted for the annual awards. But don’t worry: if your project doesn’t win at this stage, it could still score high enough within its category to get shortlisted for the annual awards. All winners and runners-up each month receive a badge and certificate to showcase their achievement to their network.
Annual awards
At the end of 2021, we aim to host another uniquely memorable occasion to gather the entire spectrum of spatial-design industry stakeholders together under one roof, to connect, collaborate and convene. During the annual awards programme, shortlisted studios will be invited to present their work live before the grand jury. This jury will make the final selection of winners, which will be revealed during the Frame Awards ceremony. Due to changing COVID-19 restrictions we must remain flexible in our plans, but we will be creating a virtually hosted edition should travel and congregation in person not be possible.
Live jury sessions
Every month we announce new winners and highly commended projects that have impressed the jury. These recognized projects are celebrated and discussed during our monthly livestreamed Live Judging Sessions, which we encourage our entire community to attend. Through witnessing these sessions you get the opportunity to learn from the judges’ critique, uncover emerging spatial design trends and hear what makes a project truly stand out from the crowd. Not only that: these sessions are also developed to provide our community an opportunity to meet each other, putting names and faces to the people that make up the interior-design industry at large.
Frame Awards ceremony
To culminate the annual awards, our intention is to create a celebratory, convivial night with dinner, networking and entertainment, shining a spotlight on the year’s winners. As with the day programme, the Frame Awards team is considering all possible scenarios and working on a contingency plan for a fully livestreamed, digital version of the ceremony. As soon as we can confirm the events, we will make announcements across our channels.
