Air China Blue Sky Tower

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

CHENGDU – KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten has won an international competition – the Blue Sky Building Project – to realize Air China’s new headquarters in Chengdou, China.

The 180m high tower will have an innovative, versatile exterior coating for sun protection. The film-like material will vary in its transluscence across the surface; in the centre it will be completely invisible.

‘The fact that the high-rise design should serve as a role model with regard to energy efficiency and sustainability, is of major concern to the developer,’ say architects at KSP.

With a triangular footprint yet curving form, the tower will act as a new landmark for the context. The high-rise, with a surface area of 124,000-sq-m, will offer space for a total of 5,470 workspaces.
