In a move to consolidate its teams across London, Microsoft relocated several of its business groups to Paddington, to create a new centre of innovation excellence. Their new home needed to integrate several very distinct groups with very different needs together under one roof, whilst creating a space that functioned effectively for their different cultures. Paddington was a befitting location for the technology giant, a place historically known for empowering connections through its vast rail and canal networks - a theme that runs through Microsoft’s new home. Drawing inspiration from London’s iconic food markets, Soho House and the local canal network, the design team shaped a space that is authentic and comfortable, providing the perfect energy for collaborating, learning, focusing and socialising. Translating Paddington’s iconic character into the interior design creates a unique an atmosphere that retains the buzz and energy of their previous Soho and Southwark locations; ensuring all employees feel inspired about their new home, whilst remaining regionally relevant. Since its completion, their new London campus delivers a workplace that points to the future whilst being sympathetic to Microsoft’s heritage and honouring its historical setting.
