The Chongkou Warehouse, a grain warehouse built in the 1950s in Guangzhou, consisted of four separate brick buildings arranged along the riverbank. To create a coherent usage logic and integrate the previously fragmented spaces, steel-roofed structures were added to three of the independent warehouses, and flexible and diverse functional areas were incorporated based on the space's characteristics. The original building's structure and materials were preserved to the greatest extent possible, and a new architectural order was created by organizing different structural components into a new form through the "insertion" method.

The renovated Chongkou Warehouse serves as an urban planning exhibition hall and multifunctional activity center, providing a landmark project to lead the comprehensive transformation and revitalization of the old urban areas. The original three warehouses now serve as exhibition and conference spaces, achieving better functional organization and spatial logic within the limited scope of renovation. The four independent warehouses were positioned close to the original three warehouses, and a connecting corridor was added to organize them into a visually cohesive but functionally independent reception space. The project has more flexible space utilization and stronger functionality, better meeting the comprehensive needs of the project.

The steel-roofed structure extends horizontally east-west, forming a semi-sheltered space with the landscape on the west-facing river side, allowing the building to integrate into and enrich the leisure life interface along the river for citizens. The relationship between the building, the original environment, and the landscape vegetation is maintained through material and form changes, ensuring indoor-outdoor interaction and transparency. The new construction is expressed through a triangular stable form, symbolizing the strong momentum and stability of the Guangzhou West Bank development under government support.

The project's integrated design achieves the activation and organic preservation of the old building site, while also exploring and practicing the intervention in China's contemporary sustainable urban development process. The renovated Chongkou Warehouse has received the SITES Platinum Award and has become a benchmark for urban green and sustainable development. The project serves as an excellent example of how old industrial areas can be transformed into modern, functional spaces while preserving their historical and cultural value.
