Spotify has recognized the potential of Medellin as a cultural epicenter in the modern world and its ability to develop urban genres. To reflect the material and sensory identity of the city from a contemporary perspective, Del Valle Studio has created a museum experience in the former Museum of Antioquia. The renovation of each area of the museum to contrast with the original construction and the addition of additional light has allowed for the creation of a memorable and immersive spatial composition that showcases the city's DNA through visual metaphors.
The project has been an exciting challenge that has led to interesting conversations about how music and spatial materiality combine to create a physical brand experience. The model has been a valuable tool for making quick decisions and maintaining an analog approach.
From a visual perspective, the proposal is eclectic and reflects the essence of the city. The use of recycled and common elements of the urban environment, modified by light and color effects, has demonstrated the value of design in a society that considers the everyday as waste and has reaffirmed designers' ability to reuse objects and question beauty and resource optimization standards.
Spotify's arrival in Medellin has reaffirmed the city as a cultural and creative epicenter and has provided an opportunity to bring the local to a global conversation. The project is an example of how collaboration across different disciplines can enable the creation of unforgettable experiences and demonstrates the passion and need of Medellin's creatives to showcase their work to the world and constantly raise the level of the conversation.
