The Concrete-designed Jeroen Pit Huis in Amsterdam has been named the Healthcare Centre of the Year for FRAME Awards 2022 because of its humanizing approach to care space.
The Jeroen Pit Huis at the Amsterdam Academic Medical Centre is a healthcare home for chronically ill children and their families. Designed by Concrete, the 1,700-sq-m medical home is a space where children and their families can transition from the hospital environment to their own homes. Children and their families live here while undergoing care and parents and caretakers are trained to learn to use medical care equipment at home. The space comprises eight apartments which are connected by a communal living area, kitchen, playroom, physio area, nursing station, central bathroom and meeting spaces. The hybrid living and healthcare space enables families to live together while still providing children with access to healthcare. The designer balances a home-like quality while still sticking to the regulations and restrictions required in the hospital environment like the use of anti-bacterial surfaces.
