Mindful renovation. Strong narrative. Impactful colours and materials. Our first FRAME Awards 2023 jury named these qualities and more as reasons to crown Palma, Spain, residential project Can Santacilia by Ohlab as the winner.
Named the inaugural FRAME Awards 2023 winner in November, Can Santacilia comprises two buildings in Palma de Mallorca’s old town. The structures as they stand today were originally built in the 16th century but have a history dating back to 1300-1400. Ohlab renovated 3,300 sq-m, transforming the historical site into a series of dwellings suited to contemporary living needs. Noble, local materials and natural-tone hues reflecting the Mediterranean culture were selected for the project. These palettes give each space an individual feel; residents can come together in the lush shared courtyard or the communal facilities. Niels Kramer, creative director EMEA at Tétris Design & Build calls the project a ‘Very nice example of what interior architecture should be all about.’ Skylab principal and director of interior design Nita Posada joins in: ‘Flawless integration of new and old’.
