Objects

An avid collector of everyday items such as buckets, designer Jakub Berdych of Qubus Design Studio is fascinated with the simple shapes of standardized design. Taking utilitarian objects out of context, Berdych focuses on giving them a new lease of life. The collections concentrate on craftsmanship and often contain a sense of contradiction, such as the Bucket Vase in which an ordinary, almost ugly product is combined with beautiful hand-blown glass. Inspired by flower shops, where the merchandise is often displayed in simple buckets, Berdych wanted to give some dignity to the simple, yet classic shape of the bucket by combining it with glass. Another piece based on an everyday item is Milk, a vase inspired by the classic shape of a milk bottle. By giving the bottle new dimensions and upgrading its material, it is also given a new context.
