Tsubaki symbolizes fulfillment and completeness. In this home, the well-being of the family is perfectly preserved through the serenity and the green approach of the design. Tsubaki caters to warm interactions among family members and adds a leisurely charm to daily life.

Tsubaki is the Japanese word for the camellia flower, a variety of which is grown in the residence. The homeowners have deep connections towards each of the camellia trees, the flowers serve not only as a touch of Zen, but also emotional support. The water curtain in the atrium regulates temperature and humidity and provides privacy for the family members in the common areas. Inside the living room, the sofa area is sunk down into the floor to further enhance the openness, so the scenic imagery of the garden and the water curtain can be clearly seen sitting in the dining area without any obstruction. The decision also creates visual layers akin to a form of 3D landscape art.

The coexistence of privacy and spatial transparency is a key feature of the design. Most of the windows are facing towards the center of the house, with the atrium and a large terrace providing abundant natural light and fresh air. A special route and stairway are designed for friends and neighbors to directly access the second-floor terrace without going into the main house, it’s a perfect arrangement for both tea parties and barbeque. The route also caters to the father’s love for boat fishing: Using it, the equipment can be taken straight into the storage room and the catch to the kitchen upon returning home.

All the arrangements of the design aim to preserve the family’s bond and health. The environmental control property of the water curtain spans even to dust reduction. Additionally, a specialized filtration system is installed to maintain the water quality, keeping it reusable for a long period of time. The structural design promotes airflow and reduces the need for AC even in the subtropical climate of Taiwan. In addition, the house features state-of-the-art Fresh Air System design by the homeowner, capable of filtering out 99% of harmful particles in the air. On the top floor, a private vegetable garden offers leisure activity for the whole family. The growing produce brings about a lively atmosphere and promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Pushing sustainability is one of the designer’s utmost priorities, Tsubaki the project has received Green Design certification for its eco-friendly approach, and precise planning was made to avoid any unnecessary procedures and corrections, mitigating the damage done to the environment. By integrating sustainability into people’s life, eco-consciousness can be passed down to next generations and to the farthest corners of the world. The wish to protect the family’s well-being is not limited to the design itself, but also the spirit of it. It is Tsubaki’s goal to become a symbol of completeness and fulfillment.
