The world's oldest champagne house, Maison Ruinart, with 300 years of history, has updated a new pavilion expressing the metamorphoses towards the new chapter of the Maison: it is the Pavilion Nicolas Ruinart. Located in the historic site of Maison Ruinart in Reims, the region renowned for its winemaking expertise, the contemporary pavilion engages in a visual conversation with its historic surroundings. The pavilion's glazed courtyard-facing facade offers a view of the Maison's legacy, contrasting with the stone rear. This interplay between the new and the old underscores Maison Ruinart's commitment to both preserving its legacy and embracing innovation.
Despite its modernity, the pavilion echoes the proportions of the existing architecture, establishing a sense of visual and symbolic connection. Within the pavilion designed by Sou Fujimoto, CURIOSITY created an interior space that embodies the essence of Maison Ruinart, with a delicate balance between heritage and innovation that offers visitors an unforgettable experience while respecting the historic place.
The space is conceived as an inner garden, with the mineral, stone, complying with the architecture and landscaping, and is organized by creating open, unpartitioned areas using curved rods made from linen and carbon fibers, gently guiding visitors as if through a light-filled forest.
Upon entry, guests are enveloped in Ruinart’s distinctive aesthetic—essential yet luminous and emotional. The soaring, airy stems frame an elegant perspective of the historic building, drawing the eye towards its timeless architecture.
Visitors can stop by the reception desk, before being led to the salons or the boutique, where the Carousel, a self-service cellar with a wall of signature bottles, stands.
They can then unwind at the bar, which features an impressive stone counter complemented by a glass bubble sculpture, before choosing between a private table within the modular alcove or seating on the terrace.
Ruinart's design emphasizes transparency and light, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces with large windows and lush vegetation. This refined atmosphere is achieved through carefully selected, all-French materials and furniture, reflecting a commitment to sustainability while respecting interior and exterior views.
More than just a new destination, the Pavilion Nicolas Ruinart is an immersive sensory journey where architecture, nature and art converge to create an experience that resonates with Ruinart's legacy of modernity and respect for nature. This pavilion stands as a poetic intersection of design and heritage, offering visitors an unforgettable moment of discovery. Far from being nostalgic, the Pavilion Nicolas Ruinart infuses a positive vision of the future and the responsibilities that bear upon us to ensure that the legacy will prevail.
