A Story of Lens Across Time
With a history spanning over 300 years, Liangcai Wu eyewear store is one of China's most influential old brands. As Generation Z increasingly shapes the consumer market, there's a growing focus on offline shopping experiences and a sense of identity in consumption. For Liangcai Wu Eyeglasses, renowned for its optical expertise, the flagship store on Nanjing Road serves as a renewed starting point, embarking on a journey to seamlessly blend heritage with youthful design aesthetics, telling the story of the brand's long history with a lighter touch.
The development of the founder Mr. Wu's family began with the jade business. We explore the "ingenuity" process of transforming raw stone into exquisite jade as the core of this eyewear brand's story. Our space leads people through the entire process of jade carving: the entrance on the first floor features scenes of mountains and caves, creating a primitive quarry atmosphere with rough textures and irregular gaps on the wall surface that represent the marks left by nature and craftsmen over time. At the end of the space is a device modeled after a jade grinder from thousands of years ago. In the delicate sound of grinding, visitors pass through a corridor of time to reach the second floor where time-processed jade is combined with modern space, giving the century-old brand a youthful look.
The central area's "Mountain Harvesting" art installation showcases the brand's exquisite craftsmanship in selecting premium lens materials, while the brand's iconic figure, "Old Master Wu," undergoes a futuristic transformation with a fashionable mechanical appearance.
Another installation, the "Lens for Everything," combines artificial intelligence with industrial interaction. As people put on glasses, the content within the frames dynamically changes, providing an imaginative and playful interactive experience.
In the limited retail space, Dayuan Design strives to blend novelty with tradition, sophistication with ruggedness. Drawing inspiration from uniquely Chinese displays—such as traditional medicine chests and cabinets—we reintegrate these elements into stylish and practical eyewear showcases. Simultaneously, we incorporate eco-friendly materials such as reclaimed wood and coffee grounds, conveying the brand's commitment to sustainability to consumers.
The space also offers customers functionalities like eyewear exhibitions, a coffee shop, and a VIP optometry room. This multifunctionality transforms the space into a hub for social and cultural experiences, enhancing customer retention and fostering closer brand connections. In consideration of future brand evolution, all exhibits and installations within the project are designed to be mobile, allowing for seamless adjustments to align with the brand's development and current needs. This approach not only minimizes additional expenses and redundant production but also mitigates adverse environmental impacts.
