“Astonishment”
The idea was to give ordinary objects that surround us every day, a new and extraordinary meaning.

I found the theme of astonishment in spring, which amazes us every year with an explosion for the senses, when nature is reborn again. I told the story by showing two simple objects. The first is a watering can, while the second is a window. The story starts with the use of a watering can. Thanks to this, spring is born, the symbol of which is the spreading ivy. This is what we see in the first window. In the second, an open window is shown, which is an invitation for spring to come inside, to our home. It’s the tea time with the new season. The ordinary window is the beginning of a fresh breeze of spring in our interior. The astonishment is hidden in the usual objects thanks to which we experience the magic of spring. The protagonist of both scenes is an invisible person, which could be any of us, astonished by the beauty of the nature revival.

The design is very detailed. Most of the items are handmade. Among others, we have paper flowers, felted birds or sculptured clouds. More than 120 leaves were knitted for the scenography. I think that the craftsmanship is one of the crucial parts of this project. In the times of pursuit for innovation and ever-changing design, here we are back in the past, where the beauty and quality were achieved by time consuming, handmade artistry. The choice of well known, and supposedly passé, techniques is an example that traditional solutions and materials can still find its place in the present day, bring emotions and astonish yet again.

Production of these windows was a social collective. Elements used, were produced only by local subcontractors and students. We have focused on handmade works not only for details or finishing but also for larger elements.
