The design philosophy of the Tortu brand comes from the sea turtle: one of the oldest reptiles on earth. The sea turtle can be found in multiple oceans and has adapted perfectly to different climates and habitats.

The sea turtle is a symbol of happiness and also represents the protection of the oceans and the pursuit of sustainability. It is the balance that Tortu strives for when designing and manufacturing its products.

Founded in 2012 with a modest Dutch Design collection, Tortu has grown in 10 years into a supplier and designer of total bathroom concepts. In 2018, Lex de Gooijer's studio designed the entire Tortu World showroom and has now also started designing various collections. Where, after a year of hard work, the first designs are finally launched.

For Tortu we designed a marble washbasin made of slabs. Because we use a lot of slabs to make fully marbled bathrooms, we also have a lot of 'residual materials'

We wanted to give this material a very nice use and came up with this very compact washbasin with towel rack included. The slanted side ensures that the water flows better into the drain with less splashing around.
