Tali Lennox’s first ever solo show is now open at Catherine Ahnell Gallery in New York City. Lennox, the daughter of singer/songwriter and activist Annie Lennox and film producer Uri Fruchtmann, relocated from London to New York City in September of 2012 so as to dedicate herself fully to her artistic endeavors. The move marked a turning point in her artistic work as she developed a love affair with the unique spirit of New Yorkers she encountered on a daily basis.

Inspired by the faces of the city Lennox focused her work on capturing the human spirit in the form of portraits with oil paint as her medium. Lennox intends to display beauty in darkness and the raw honestly of life's emotions in her work. Lennox will showcase a series exclusively consisting of self-portraits, what she deems “the original selfie,” for her debut solo exhibition, "Layers of Life."

From Tali Lennox: "My 'Layers of Life' exhibition is a reaction to the phenomena of social media, 'selfies' and casual narcissism. We are constantly and instantaneously sharing visual representations of ourselves for others to judge. It has become all too easy to hide behind our screens and curate what, how, and who we are using buttons & mobile cameras. The reality of our identities offline, in the 'real world', becomes selectively concealed from the voyuers of the online world. In 'Layers of Life' I have used oil paints as my medium instead of a cell phone button to create my 'selfies'. I aim to take time to go deeper and expose raw elements of human nature that we can all relate to in order to transcend the instant illusion of our Facebook updates and Instagram feeds.

Lennox will be the first artist to exhibit at Catherine Ahnell Gallery for the year; the live in workspace, established by Catherine Ahnell with the intent of creating a unique experience through the presenting art in it’s place of creation, plans to exclusively showcase female artists for the entire year of 2015. Lennox will join the likes of past exhibitors including Miljan Suknovic, Sambre, L'Atlas, Mehdi-Georges Lahlou, Jonas 'Sun7' Bournat, TANC, LMDLDZR (LeMoDuLeDeZeeR), and Yaze Yassine Mekhnache, in undergoing the process of living and creating her show within the gallery space.

For one month prior to the exhibition opening Lennox will live within the gallery, transforming the space itself into an art studio wherein Lennox will not only live but also produce the works for the upcoming exhibition for the purpose of allowing collectors and media the ability to understand the artists work and process. The month-long residency will be followed by a one-month solo exhibition of the art created by Lennox within the space.

Tali Lennox Layers of Life at Catherine Ahnell Gallery until 19 April 2015.
