The Japanese firm’s sleek stand for the beverage brand shows to-go hospitality formats don’t have to be second-rate.

The team at Schemata Architects are long-time designers for Blue Bottle Coffee. Their newest project for the global company – a takeaway-only stand in Yokohoma – is not the first of its kind for Blue Bottle, but the hospitality format is especially relevant considering how spatially agile businesses have had to be in our social-distancing reality. Located in a heavily trafficked area, the 25-m-long stand is situated outside the city’s NEWoMan shopping centre and nearby its main transit station. Outswing folding glass doors enclose the barista area and, when opened outward to their full 1.2 m, create corners for customers to wait or drink their coffee. Furniture such as a small condiment station, merchandise display table and a bench are kept stored under the stand’s counter and can easily be pulled out for use.
