Screenplay Bench by Oyler Wu Collaborative

Over 13,700m of rope was strung through steel frames to create an optical illusion, installation and seating unit in one.

Screenplay stretches 6.5m-long and is made from lightweight steel frames with rope systematically intertwined between, creating a thick screen-like effect.

‘In its orthographic, or “straight on” view, the wall forms a meticulously organized series of patterns easily recognized by the viewer,’ says designer Jenny Wu of Los Angeles-based Oyler Wu Collaborative. ‘As the viewer moves around the wall, its three-dimensional qualities reveal a more complex system of deep sectional cavities, twisting surfaces, and material densities.’

Screenplay was created for the Dwell on Design 2012 festival in Los Angeles, California. Wu says the concept explores the use of materials while ‘playing with visual perception.’
