The profound color, black, has been fascinating humans since ancient times. Rather than simply as a color, black can be thought of as the optical property of how much light can be subtracted into nothingness. Asian sensibilities are packed within this idea of “nothingness.” Through Japan’s nanotechnologies, a black far blacker than the norm —one of the blackest substances on the face of the Earth—has been realized here. Mirroring the spirit and aesthetic of Japanese “Zen,” we are developing this pure and profound black, “ZENBLACK.”
For releasing "ZENBLACK", we designed a stone zen-garden made of charcoal & Black green-tea bowl.
Regarding the green-tea bowl, in collaboration with Japanese lacquer craftsmen, we were able to develop a formulation through carbon nano tubes, the blackest lacquer ever known in its over 1200 year history of lacquers.
For the zen-garden, “ZENBLACK", which is one of the most dark substances on the earth created by modern technology and the skill of stone zen-garden which has continued since 800 years ago merge to express black beyond spacetime.
