Glamping facilities are commonly associated with dome-shaped tents with luxurious furnishings in Japan. However, I wanted to create an architectural structure that is not temporary, but rather one that can be used as a permanent fixture, so I planned it as an empty structure with a roof, almost like an outside space that blends into the natural environment. I wanted to create an architecture that would allow visitors to feel close to nature through the experience of staying in this cabin, even if they had come to the national park for sightseeing purposes.

Because this cabin is tucked away between the existing trees, the distance between the cabin and the trees is very close, meaning the cabin is as close to nature as possible. Each room has a direct access to the BBQ site, allowing visitors to enjoy the camp-like atmosphere while admiring the beautiful scenery.

The foundation is 1.2meters elevated from the ground because of the one meter snowfall in winter, but the structure is supported by wooden bundles instead of a concrete enclosure, much like Japanese shrine architecture, so as not to feel separated from the ground as much as possible.

Horizontal timbers were not used in the structure to ensure lightness. From the interior, we were conscious of the sense of openness to Lake Chuzenji and Mt. Nantai, and cut out the scenery that many people expect to see in Nikko National Park. We hope that this sense of closeness with nature will allow architecture and nature to coexist in the future.
