X-sign Space is one of the few design exhibition-only spaces in China, containing an exchange of design thinking on graphics, architecture, products, clothing, digital media and more. The project is located on the first floor of the Union Building next door to Tianmuli in the main city of Hangzhou. The block contains the Tianmuli Art Museum, Nomad Gallery, B1OCK fashion shopping stores, etc., and is an urban dynamic block open to the public. The space covers 580 square meters, and functional spaces such as design department, meeting, reception, tea room and warehouse are planned in the north of the pavilion.

The exhibition hall, as the main body of the space, has large floor-to-ceiling glass windows to introduce sufficient natural light, remove the cumbersome aluminum curtain wall of the original building, increase the permeability of the building through the wide floor-to-ceiling windows, gently integrate with the city, and create a sense of continuity and community in the public space.

The exhibition hall walls are embedded with aluminum strip closures at the positive corners to keep the space precisely straight, and the white walls are painted by a specialized artisan Uhjoh technique. The white walls appear almost completely flat, but in fact have a slightly irregular mechanism that gently reflects the incoming natural light and creates delicate shadows.

In order to ensure that the exhibition area is maximized and the functional areas are practical and compact, we solved all entrance and traffic problems with a narrow through-height core, forming an L-shaped "core cylinder".

We believe that the space itself should be quiet and introverted, without showing extra expression; the concept of equality between the container and its contents gives the space an air of confidence and composure, the right to speak is given over, and the people and objects in the space become the subjects of emotions. In this way, through conscious and precise "omission", the core essence of space construction is revealed, and through the ultimate exploration of materials and construction techniques, the creator's self is revealed.
