Located on a tree-lined street with many turn-of-the-century buildings, 35 E 68th Street 2B Dunham House is a 25-foot-wide Limestone Mansion located between Park and Madison Avenue. Carrere & Hastings, the architectural firm best known for The Frick Collection and The NY Public Library, built The Dunham House in 1899. Exterior façade was fashioned with French details in the very au currant Beaux Arts style. Erected between 1899 and 1901, it was a frothy confection dripping with carved garlands and extenuated brackets above the third floor. Along with two arched French windows at the second story sat behind stone balustrades. The Dunham town house is within the Upper East Side Historic District, designated in 1981 by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Design Concept Functional Creative Design was tasked to renovate and design a Pied-a-Terre. The approach was to insure functionality, celebrate historical details within the space and provide solutions that address sustainable building practices along with following NYC historical boards guidelines. Design concept was to reflect the client's own private boutique suite in a hotel as they travel to NYC often for the theatre and food; along with fusing east coast and west coast inspiration was a key point in the approach of this residence. FCD kept traditional elements of the old New York architecture and details while including modern elements. Design Details Floors: Kept existing floors and refinished with new stain.
